How did you first hear about Optimum Skills?
“They came recommended from one of our employees who had worked with Optimum Skills in previous years.”
What challenges / problems or trends in the industry required the assistance of Optimum Skills?
“We had an opportunity in our Garage Network Team to hire a Customer Service Advisor and wanted to offer this opportunity to someone at the start of their career. The role is highly administrative and involved responding to queries via a busy inbox, making detailed notes, dealing with complaints in line with protocols and being a friendly voice on the phone when dealing with drivers and garages.
We felt this role was perfect for an apprenticeship as it provided plenty of scope to develop and progress. We also value the importance of apprenticeships in upskilling and career-building and felt that hiring an apprentice would provide us with a long term solution; we expected that finding the right candidate would allow us to develop the role and provide longevity / stability in a very busy and candidate-driven employment market.”
What solution were you looking for in working with Optimum Skills?
“We had wanted to hire the right person and to take advantage of the additional support Optimum Skills gave us both during the application process (including setting us up as an apprenticeship provider and guiding us through the funding process) but also in screening candidates and advising us on how we might support a younger person in the workplace, should the apprentices hired be under 18. Optimum Skills have been able to offer all of this support.”
What aspects of working with Optimum Skills have been the most helpful?
“The most helpful aspect has to be in helping us hire our apprentice! She’s hit the ground running and fitted in brilliantly; no mean feat considering we’ve mostly been working remotely! Optimum Skills have also been helpful in setting up the apprenticeship and guiding us at each step of the way, making the administrative side of things as simple as possible, as well as organising tutor visits and generally being friendly and approachable.”
What are your thoughts on the candidate supplied by Optimum Skills?
“In our limited experience (we only interviewed 4 candidates), all were competent and understood what the role being discussed was about.”
Has working with Optimum Skills saved money for the business / increased productivity?
“It has saved us money in recruitment costs and has also helped us fill a gap in the team, at a critical time, The fact that our apprentice has fitted in so well has certainly boosted the team in terms of morale, workload capacity and service provided to customers. Thank you.”
What have you been the most impressed with?
“Providing us with a great candidate, plus regular communication and a friendly team. Efficient processing of applications and funding information and prompts if something from our side was needed or if information was outstanding.”
Plans for working with Optimum Skills in the future?
“If we need to expand the team and felt an apprentice was the way to do it, we would consider Optimum Skills.”
