Paige – Business Traineeship

Case Study

Learner Journey & Progression

Paige has been on programme now for five weeks. She came with various anxiety issues being nervous about being in a group situation and concerns about being accepted. Paige had previously attended courses but did not complete any, due to these problems.

Our tutor made initial contact by several telephone calls to discuss how the course would be delivered. Our tutor explained that although sessions would be by Zoom, she would not need to be on screen if she felt uncomfortable and could join using audio and use other communication tools within Zoom.

Paige attends every session delivered and contributes to the sessions and this shows that her confidence level is increasing. Each session Paige became more proactive and now attends sessions using her video on Zoom and not just audio.

Paige has completed all assessments set by her tutor and this is done within the timescales given. Paige is fully engaged and has a lovely personality and is eager to learn. Optimum are very proud of what she is achieving and can see a complete change in her confidence, employability skills and functional skills.

Next Steps

Paige is seeking to complete her work placement in childcare or in a mental health support role to eventually gain employment.

This goes to prove that distance learning is extremely beneficial for Paige to develop her employability and functional skills as previous classroom environment learning had not been successful for Paige.

Paige:
“Since starting the course with Optimum skills I feel more confident in a group setting. I know my anxiety will always be something I will struggle with but having a tutor like Nicola definitely helps, as I feel I can contact her about any problems I have. I’m looking forward to the rest of my course.”

Tutor:
“Paige’s mam has contacted me on several occasions to thank me for my patience, time and support given to Paige. This includes being there to answer and deal with any concerns, including some outside of normal working hours.”

Paige’s mam:
“I just wanted to thank you for this morning, Paige was so nervous, so much so she was nearly in tears, I held her together and as soon as she got into it she was fine, you made the session fun and she has come away feeling really good. It means a lot to me, many thanks.”
