Are you looking for the opportunity to begin your career in rail? 

Optimum Skills are working alongside Rail Sponsorship and Training providers to address Rail Staff and Training shortages. We will properly address training requirements over 3 weeks, after which successful candidates will go on to achieve a work outcome and a fast track into the rail industry.

With training split between our Benfield Centre and the Rail Academy in Felling candidates will take part in the following training:

1st week in Benfield

• Medical
• Drugs and alcohol test withing the first two days
• Level 1 health and safety
• CSCS test one attempt
• Personal Track Safety (PTS) E-learning
• Awareness of working on the railway

As part of the first week, the candidates will receive full PPE

2nd week in Felling Gateshead next to the rail academy

• Day 1 and 2 – PTS
• Day 3 – Fire awareness and manual handling
• Day 4 – Emergency first aid awareness
• Day 5 – DCCR course which provides delegates with the knowledge required to safely carry out their duties in DC electrified areas in line with current Network Rail standards. The Working Near or Adjacent to DC Conductor Rails (DCCR) is a one day course for those who already hold a Personal Track Safety (PTS) card
• OLEC which is mandatory for all delegates that work or wish to work on Network Rail Overhead Line equipment

3rd week in Felling

• Track Induction Course (TIC) provides the basic underpinning knowledge of permanent way construction, components and working methods associated with maintenance, renewal, repair, adjustment and dismantling of permanent way assets.
