Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship

Starting point

“I went to university for a year, but it just wasn’t for me, so I dropped out. I thought an apprenticeship was a good way to get the experience but also still be a form of education. When I started the apprenticeship, I was very quiet, especially at work. I have gained confidence, and I don’t think I would have gotten that if I had gone for a normal job.” – Katie

What were your goals at the start of the apprenticeship?

“I am halfway through my apprenticeship now.

I thought at the start of the apprenticeship that I would just get through the work and then see where I was confidence-wise. But now I feel like I have more future goals than when I first started.

The challenges have been to manage my time and get my college work done because it is easy to prioritise business deadlines over this.

When I first started doing a qualification and a job, it felt like a lot, because I had never really worked full time before. Then, when my manager went part time, I had to step up and prioritise my time to make sure I got everything done.” – Katie

What have you achieved?

“So far in my apprenticeship I have achieved the Employee Recognition Award at work. I have also been given the responsibility of my own subcontractor to deal with. I feel like I am a lot more confident now working on my own, and I am not afraid to ask for help if I need it now. I feel like my tutor has helped me a lot with my confidence by pushing me to do presentations and professional discussions to boost my confidence. Typically I go quiet, and I know this is something I need to work on. I think the lessons we do are really useful, and it makes me go back and look at the business and think about it in ways I hadn’t thought before.” – Katie

What are your goals after working with Optimum Skills?

“My goals for the rest of the apprenticeship are to focus on my presentation skills and continue to boost my confidence a little bit.
Once the apprenticeship is finished, hopefully, I will gain full-time employment and then potentially a managerial position if one becomes available.” – Katie
