Job Title: Lead Business Tutor

Location: Middlesbrough plus Newton Aycliffe (HO), Gateshead and Newcastle Hubs and travel throughout Northeast where needed

Reports to: Senior Operations Manager

Job Purpose: The Lead Business Tutor you will play a vital role in guiding and supporting learners on all contracts; Apprenticeships, Adult Skills Funded Short Courses, and Skills Bootcamp, while also supporting a team of tutors. Acting as the bridge between delivery staff and senior management, this role is central to maintaining high quality standards, learner outcomes, and operational effectiveness. This role will combine coaching capabilities with strong subject knowledge and teaching experience and possess the ability to inspire and guide delivery teams while managing day-to-day challenges across multiple contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership
  • Support with regular 121s with delivery staff, ensuring clear communication of objectives, KPIs and performance expectations.
  • Foster a positive working environment within the team, promoting collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and participate in team briefings and meetings to communicate daily and monthly priorities of the team.
  • Champion CPD and assist with tracking training needs, contributing to a culture of lifelong learning within the team.
  • Work collaboratively with relevant managers and staff to manage risks and causes of concern relating to the learner or the employer.
  • Act as a first line contact for tutors to ensure a positive and productive learning experience for learners and employers.
  • Teaching, Learning & Assessment
  • Deliver engaging, high-quality teaching across classroom, remote and workplace settings where required.
  • Provide individualised support to learners, monitoring progress, conducting reviews, and ensuring progression through personalised learning plans.
  • Ensure teaching delivery is consistent with quality standards and aligns with curriculum frameworks and employer needs.
  • Support the Senior Operations Manager with tutor activity and learner caseloads to ensure delivery meets compliance and funding body expectations (e.g. ESFA, ASF, Bootcamps).
  • Collaborate with the Senior Operations Manager and the curriculum team to support course design, adaptation and enhancement in response to industry demands and learner needs.
  • Support scheduling and planning of delivery, including Hub Days, Functional Skills, and EPA preparation across all contract types.
  • Qualifications, Competence & Behaviours
  • Possess appropriate vocational qualifications and/or competency in a number of subject specialisms such as management, admin, lean, customer service, digital skills etc.
  • Hold relevant teaching qualifications e.g. PTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed etc.
  • Hold relevant assessing qualifications e.g. CAVA.
  • Level 2 Functional Skills (English, Maths and ICT) or equivalent
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems, including Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of training and/or assessing in an educational or workplace environment.
  • Good understanding of DfE funding rules, EPA requirements, ASF compliance etc.
  • Prior exposure to Ofsted and/or quality assurance processes.
  • Be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate behaviour consistent with Company Values.

  • Share a current/be willing to undertake a DBS Enhanced Disclosure check.
  • Share references which are satisfactory to the Company.
  • Car user essential due to travel
